New Years Resolution- Eat More Chocolate to Ward off Alzheimer's Disease?
![]() Eating certain foods including red grapes, red grape juice, red wine, chocolate, peanuts and tomatoes, have been predicted to ward off a handful of age-related conditions, including Alzheimer's. This may be due to a compound found naturally in these foods called resveratrol. Georgetown University Medical Center's Memory Disorders Program began a new study looking at how resveratrol affects those with mild to moderate dementia due to Alzheimer's disease.
There have been no studies as of yet that look it the effects on memory loss in humans, as they have previously been studied on animals. Resveratrol, on its own, is not approved by the FDA, but researchers are hoping the results from the study will make that happen. Participants will need to be involved in the study for a year and a caregiver will have to help out throughout the research period. There are more than five million Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's and this number is expected to increase dramatically as the baby boomers age. Upcoming Events
