A Memorial Day Message and a Major Step Forward in Alzheimer’s Diagnosis
This Memorial Day, we honor the courage and sacrifice of those who served our country. It’s also a time many families gather — and take a moment to reflect on legacy, aging, and the future.
That makes it an especially meaningful time to share some powerful news:
The FDA has just granted full clearance to the first Alzheimer’s blood test for clinical use in doctor’s offices nationwide.
You may recall that we first
wrote about blood tests for Alzheimer’s markers back in 2022. Back then, we highlighted the hope surrounding experimental tools — but noted that none were yet fully approved for widespread use.
That’s now changed.
What’s New: The PrecivityAD2 Test
The newly cleared PrecivityAD2 is the first blood test of its kind to receive FDA breakthrough designation and full
CLIA certification for routine use. Unlike previous tests still in research settings, this one is now available for clinical ordering and can be administered with a simple blood draw in a doctor’s office.
The test measures a ratio of amyloid beta and phosphorylated tau proteins — both of which are key biomarkers associated with Alzheimer’s disease — using mass spectrometry, a highly sensitive method previously
confined to research labs.
Key differences from prior tests:
This test is fully validated for clinical use — not just part of a trial.
It uses more precise, updated biomarker ratios (tau/amyloid) than earlier versions.
Results can now be used to inform diagnosis and
treatment in adults over 55 with mild cognitive symptoms.
Why This Matters — Especially Around the Holidays
For many families, Memorial Day marks time spent with aging loved ones. Subtle signs — forgetting names, repeating questions, getting lost in familiar places — often go unspoken but noticed.
This test could change that.
Earlier detection leads
to better decisions:
Families can take action while the individual still has legal capacity.
Powers of attorney, advance medical directives, long-term care planning, and Medicaid and Veterans Asset Protection Trusts such as our Living
Trust Plus can all be put into place.
This Memorial Day, honor every stage of life with dignity — and plan wisely.
If you or a loved one are showing signs of memory loss, we’re here to help you navigate what comes next — medically, legally, and financially.
From all of us, Happy Memorial Day.
We remember and honor those who gave everything for our country. And we’re
here to help you plan for the future with confidence, compassion, and care.
